Luana Bassil is a Lebanese filmmaker and photographer, born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. She spent her childhood discovering filmmakers and developed her taste for cinema from a young age. Throughout her youth, she could be seen taking analogue photos of her surroundings.

Her passion for films and cinema has deeply influenced her work. To escape the political and personal challenges she faced since a young age, Luana found solace in her country's true riches, namely the sea and mountains. From the start of her career, the artist used the lens to create a distance between herself and the difficult and complex realities found in the Lebanese social and political landscape. Her work subtly guides her viewers towards what is most authentic: the body and nature, far from the vicissitudes of a country in distress.

Having left Beirut in 2019, she now applies the same approach of searching for the beauty and authenticity of everyday life, offering a poetic, soothing, and sincere refuge from her new residence of Brussels, Belgium.

In recent years, Bassil has exhibited her work in various art galleries across the world, including Beirut, Paris, Morocco and Brussels. She has collaborated frequently with creators such as Diane Von Fürstenberg, Lara Khoury, and Alexandra Hakim.
